INTERVIEW TIPS FOR PORTUGAL

It is worth remembering a few points of basic etiquette before attending an interview:

1. make sure your hair is clean and combed
2. your nails should be clean and neat
3. dress conservatively on the side of caution
4. arrive ten minutes before the interview as the extra time will give you time to relax and take in the surroundings and also complete any additional information that might be required.
5. make sure your mobile phone is switched off
6. do not make assumptions that the person who greets you it either the interviewer or the receptionist. Let them introduce themselves.

During the interview:

1. make a good first impression be giving a firm handshake to the interviewer
2. make sure you sound professional and communicate well avoiding use of slang and "uh" and "you know"
3. use technical terms and acronyms only when they are appropriate to the question
4. make sure you listen. Most candidates as so nervous about answering questions correctly that they often go off at a tangent. It can best be done by direct eye contact which means you stay with that person; nonverbal expressions such as nodding and showing an interest and letting the interviewer finish the question without interruption.
5. good questions to ask early in the interview are "what are you most hoping to find in the person you hire?" and "what would be my first priorities on the job?" The answers to these questions will enable you to tailor your answers to the interviewer's priorities.
6. at the end of the interview ask "based on what we have just talked about I would really like to this job. Do you have any concerns about my abilities?" The reply will give you the opportunity to address any worries.

After the interview:

Shake the interviewers hand and thank them for sparing the time to see you.
