SOCIAL PROTECTION IN PORTUGAL
The ministry for Labour and Social Solidarity has responsibility for administering integrated services controlled by the State. Government schemes operated in Portugal covers nationals of the EU or EEA Member States and Switzerland who:
- Work as an employed or self employed person
- Are family members of an employed person
- Are survivors of the workers or pensioners
- Are students
- Are civil servants
Providing they are part of contributory or non-contributory social security schemes, they receive cover for:
- Sickness and maternity
- Invalidity
- Old age
- Accident at work or occupational disease
- Death grant
- Unemployment
- Family benefits
