WEATHER IN PORTUGAL
Portugal does have a mixed climate due to several different influences such as the Atlantic Ocean, the Mediterranean and continental influence. The best time to visit Portugal is spring and autumn when it is neither too hot nor too cold.
The south of the Iberian Peninsula is dominated by the Mediterranean climate which makes the summer months (March to October) hot and dry with temperatures from 25ºC to 40ºC and the winter months (November to March) pleasant with 13ºC up to 20ºC.
The north of Portugal has relatively short summers and mild winters with a high level of rainfall and occasional snowfall which are both influenced by Atlantic cyclones.
Due to Portugal's 700 km coastline, maritime winds bring a very high humidity to the country which decreases the further away from the coast. During the summer months the sun is shining for about 12 hours a day and during the winter months visitors can enjoy the sunshine for approximately 6 hours per day.
Spring and autumn are the most popular months for holiday-makers because of the warm and sunny days. With the cooling breeze from the Atlantic, the climate is much more enjoyable than it is in most other countries of Europe and rainy days are also not very often.
